Casper Ruud Grand Slam Finals and Biggest Titles

Ruud has reached three Grand Slam finals without winning one and that is the great missing piece of his career. His breakthrough came in Madrid in 2025 when he beat Jack Draper for his first and only ATP Masters 1000 crown. Of his 14 tour titles 12 came on clay. He also reached the 2025 US Open mixed doubles final with Iga Swiatek.

Casper Ruud Playing Style

Ruud is an offensive baseliner who builds points rather than ending them early. He relies on relentless court coverage and a high heavy topspin forehand that is his best weapon especially on clay. His backhand is the steadier and less damaging wing. A dependable serve that reaches about 203 km per hour (126 mph) sets up the forehand. He is admired for his calm manner and won the ATP Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award in 2022.

Casper Ruud at Indian Wells

Indian Wells is a tournament Ruud often names as a favorite stop yet the slower hard courts there have given him mixed success. He has never won the title and his best run was a quarterfinal in 2024 where he lost to Tommy Paul. His main draw record is 10 wins and 8 losses. Results swing with court speed from fourth round runs in 2021 and 2026 to a second round exit in 2025.

The full draw is released closer to the event so his exact position is not set. On a ranking of about No 24 he would likely be seeded but outside the top 16 and that could mean an early meeting with a top seed as happened against Alcaraz in 2026. Indian Wells is the biggest hard court title missing from his career. A seeding inside the top 16 would ease his early draw. Check the Schedule and Tickets pages for updates.

Surviving the Heat: A 2026 Five Set Win

One of his most revealing matches came in a brutal heat wave when he outlasted Roman Safiullin in five sets despite heatstroke like symptoms. Cramp crept into his calves around 3 1 in the third set and he said he moved like a zombie almost. After leading 5 2 with match points in the third he was broken and then lost a long run of games as his body shut down.

He chose not to retire. He lowered his intensity to bring his pulse and temperature down and used ice towels cold water and the extreme heat cooling breaks to recover between sets. He credited a largely mental comeback and said he would rather lose without winning a game than give up. He took the fifth set and set up a clash with Hamad Medjedovic.
